Yeah, yeah.

I'm not even gonna write anything about this one. It gave me a lot of pain and stress, and it still didn't turn out.

Oh well.

May 1st-May 3rd

I had a busy weekend. Why not blog about it?

• Friday: Had class. Went to the Midway and checked out the two shows there. They were fairly "meh", to put it in the most eloquent language. Nothing too extraordinary, personally. The Midway library is a fun time, though, and I did spend a lot of time browsing through the books.
• Saturday: In the afternoon, I went to the Weisman with David to check out all the shows there. Both the "Looking into Likeness" and the "Changing Identity" exhibits had some really great pieces in them. Again, though, not the most incredible I've ever seen. Maybe I was just feelng picky this weekend? Anyway, later in the evening we headed over to the arboretum--- like we always do, I know--- and saw the two small exhibits they have up there; the bonsai tree exhibit and the wood sculpture exhibit. There's not a lot there, but it was truly beautiful work.
• Sunday: Heart of the Beast May Day Parade 09. This was actually my first time to see the parade--- and the parade filled my every expectation and then some! The image above was my favorite part of the parade. People on stilts, inside giant papier mache pigs that had puppet eyes and tongues. They were incredible. Everything was incredible.

A little late, but a lot's going on!

In short; last week I met with a production manager, editor, and director from the advertising agency Periscope. Website: http://periscope.com/

As if that first meeting wasn't cool and enlightening enough, I met with the director again yesterday afternoon, and OH BOY some cool stuff is gonna be happening for me.

Summary:

1. I'll be taking a class taught by the director I've met with.

2. I'll have the opportunity to do on-set work at the absolute bottom rung of the hierarchy. But it will be incredible nonetheless!

I'll leave it at that for now because I'm not really supposed to share all the information I have and also because I feel like a d-bag when I write/talk about this stuff. I'm bad at having a blog in that way....

Foundation 3D Exhibit up at MCAD

Five images!

Images 1 and 2 are two angles of the same sculpture, and three is a detail of the seat. Materials: Found object pantyhose, safety pins, batting, rocks (used as weights inside chair), found object rug. And to hang it: fishing line, rope, wood cross.
The last two images are of my Bauhaus-inspired sculpture, which I've posted before, but now have better images of.

I promise I'll take photos of these in a photo studio, as well, to get much much much better images of them.

Both of these sculptures plus the rest of my class's sculptures from the same assignments will be up until Wednesday or Thursday in the main gallery space outside of the wood shop/auditorium.

That's about it. Any questions/comments/critiques? I must admit; I'm fairly proud of both of these sculptures--- they were a lot of hard work, and I've gotten great reactions for both of them!

Lake Mille Lacs

Image #1: Actual image, unedited. It's nothing too spectacular, but I thought it was beautiful and elegant in its simplicity--- not necessarily the photo, just the actual thing. I did my best to capture it with my camera.

Image #2: The edited image. This makes it look much more intense, less serene than the actual thing. I thought this was interesting, too, but in a more fun way. It feels less cold than the actual image. The editing was just for fun.

Nothing too exciting to report here. Just thought I'd post these images for the hell of it.

Next week...

I'll be posting two sculptures on here next week. One is the Bauhaus-inspired sculpture that I posted a "sneak peek" of a few weeks ago; the second is a soft sculpture I just completed. I was thinking about posting a sneak peek of that one, as well, but I forgot my camera when I brought it to class for critique. Anyway, be expecting those!

Fantasy.

Three different views of one painting. Summary of materials: Actylic on newsprint (intentionally crumpled), plus hemp.

The three views:

• View one: close-up (painting only)
• View two: installation view (whole piece)
• View three: somewhere in between view one and view two =]

This piece was a little more cathartic and self-theraputic, just painting to paint. So don't try to pick it apart.

If you feel the need to see a detail, I can give you that... I thought that the images here did a decent job of showing how it was painted.

Side note: I'm working on another big sculpture right now, and I may or may not have pictures of that posted around Friday. That, or I'll post it next Friday. So be ready for that!
